Rainbow Mountain Tour

The Rainbow Mountain (also known as Vinicunca or Montaña de Siete Colores) is a unique natural wonder located approximately 5,200 meters above sea level. This stunning mountain is known for its vibrant multicolored slopes created by mineral sediments, giving it hues of red, yellow, green, and purple, among others.

On this tour, travelers will not only witness this breathtaking natural beauty but also explore the Andean landscapes, visit small local villages, and interact with the region's indigenous culture. The tour also offers spectacular views of nearby snow-capped peaks, such as Ausangate, a glacier sacred to the local people.

Itinerary

Tour Itinerary (Full Day):

4:00 amDeparture from Cusco:

The tour begins early in the morning to maximize the daylight. Travelers will be picked up from their hotel in Cusco and transported to the starting point of the hike. The journey takes approximately 3 hours, passing through picturesque landscapes in the Quispicanchi province.

7:00 amBreakfast on the way:

Along the way, there will be a stop at a local community where travelers can enjoy a traditional Andean breakfast. The breakfast typically includes bread, coffee, and camel milk (if desired) before continuing on to the start of the trek.

8:00 amStart of the Hike:

Upon reaching the trailhead, travelers will begin the ascent. The hike typically takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on the pace of each individual. Along the way, travelers can enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains, agricultural fields, and local wildlife.

10:30 amArrival at Rainbow Mountain:

Once reaching the main viewpoint, travelers will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the famous multicolored mountain. At this point, travelers can take photos, learn about the region’s geology, and enjoy the beauty of the landscape. It is recommended to stay here for about 30-45 minutes to relax and explore the area.

12:00 pmDescent to the Base:

After enjoying the view, travelers will begin their descent back to the starting point of the hike. The return usually takes about an hour and a half. Along the way, travelers can stop at several scenic points to take more photos and rest if needed.

1:30 pmLunch on the way back:

A stop will be made for a traditional Andean lunch in a local restaurant in the Pitumarca area or along the return route to Cusco, where travelers can enjoy regional dishes.

3:30 pmReturn to Cusco:

After lunch, travelers will board the transport back to Cusco, arriving in the city around 6:00 pm.
